Celestial Lands The Religious Crossroads of Politics, Power, and Theology

A Momentous Moment…

I had a goal for this holiday season… and when I set the goal I had no idea where it would take me.

The goal was to find a way to add a “Wayside Pulpit” to the Celestial Lands website. I thought it would be very simple… just a web utility that would rotate quotes through on a random basis. You see, I have for many years been collecting liberal religious quotes, and they have been by far the most popular part of the website (much, much more popular than my sermons, I am sorry to say ;).

I was never terribly happy with the old design for Celestial Lands… it was a modification of an older site, and it was state of the web-art… in 2000. Time flies fast on the internet, and now the site was “dowdy” at best. But, re-designing Celestial Lands, (much less learning a whole new web-design program) was not my goal for this holiday season…

My goal was a quote rotator that I could call the “Celestial Lands Wayside Pulpit”. If you look at the new design, you will see just such a Wayside Pulpit… but it was like rebuilding a bathroom. You start off going to just replace the faucet, and the next thing you know you are dealing with drywall and plumbing, a new toilet and bathtub, and almost having to rebuild the whole house.

Such is what happened with my “Wayside Pulpit”.

Overall, I am amazingly pleased with the new site, and I hope you are as well. I did not make any changes to the Celestial Lands Journal, and only minimal changes to the Celestial Lands Library. The DD Archive also remains the same.

But most of the main “regional” pages have been moved over to the new design and program. The new design also has given me the ability to add this blog, and a way for people to interact with my entries in it (although I am leery of that, and if I get a lot of spam I will cut it out). It will also give me a private Blog section… something I can think of all kinds of nefarious uses for…

For the techies out there, I know this website is abnormally complicated. The main site is now in WordPress, the Journal is still in PHPBB, and the library and some of the infrastructure is still in Frontpage. Think of it like a tree, as the site grows older I just keep adding layers to the older stuff…

Kinda like Microsoft Windows…

I hope you all enjoy, and I look forward to hearing from you…

Here’s to the new year!

Yours in Faith,

David
