In a year of amazing political videos, this one may be the most creative and daring I have seen yet, even more than the “Yes We Can” video. I remember the original commercial, and it was a social commentary of its time. The new version of the commercial is certainly a social commentary of this time…
And I promise, after the election, less politics and more theology here at Celestial Lands… but as a liberal preacher I try to speak to what is happening in life, and right now life is politics.
Here is the original:
Here is the new version:
I am amazed by the creativity that is going around the entire political process this time, but more so on the Democratic side. From the “Yes We Can” video to a couple who has outfitted their van with projectors, and are driving around battleground states projecting pro-Obama videos and still pictures on the side of buildings (called video-tagging), there is an amazing amount of creativity in this election.
There have been videos done by Ron Howard conversing with both Andy Griffith and “the Fonz”, there have been the “campaign ads” for Paris Hilton for President, and there is even a rather funny video mixing the modern dance competition shows with the political candidates… (Seeing John McCain bouncing off the ground nearly had me fall out of my chair).
I am amazed and joyful for this amazing creativity. I am excited by the idea that we are in a time in which we can re-invent what politics means in this country, when this kind of excitement and creativity are bringing hundreds of thousands of new voters out of the apathy that has plagued our politics and into taking a creative part in the governance of our nation.
The one thing I ask is that we stay away from hatred, fear, and negativity, and focused on a positive vision of the future of our nation. I was initially worried about the commercial above… but they brought it around…
Change… True. True.
Yours in faith,
David
