I was looking for a book of practical advice on church finances… and I am still looking. What I found was a book making the argument about why paying attention to church finances is important, and what particular areas you should be paying attention to. A note to self on this book… and I’ve come to realize on many books written by pastors. This book is more about how well they did things at one particular congregation in another tradition than it is about broadly applicable trends for congregations across traditions. I’ve come to think of such books as “Celebrations” rather than as practical and useful texts. I’m not saying there were not useful ideas in this book, for there are. This book is most useful in the area of creative ideas for stewardship and fundraising, particularly around capital campaigns. But, in the words of U2 “I still… haven’t found… what I’m looking for…” Yours in faith, David
